The LTO Ultrium format generation 4 / LTO-4/doubles storage capacity over LTO Ultrium generation 3, increasing up to 1.6TB compressed from 800GB (assuming a 2:1 compression). Transfer rates are also improved, to reach speeds up to 240MB per second in LTO generation 4 from up to 160MB per second in LTO generation 3 (assuming a 2:1 compression).

LTO-4 Ultrium 4 / LTO IV / is the second generation in the LTO Ultrium Roadmap to support WORM (Write Once Read Many) functionality. The LTO-4 specifications include the ability for WORM enabled and non-WORM enabled drives to co-exist and provides users with very cost effective means of storing data in a non-erasable, non-writable format.
